2014

The Seed is Planted

Founded in Vire-Normandie, ASSOCIATION RIVIERES ET BOCAGES began with a small group of passionate locals dedicated to preserving our natural heritage. Our initial focus was on basic riverbank cleanup and raising community awareness about the fragile bocage ecosystems. We started with just a handful of volunteers, armed with basic tools and a shared vision of ecological restoration. These early days were defined by hard work, learning the intricacies of local flora and fauna, and building trust within the community. It was the crucial first step in what would become a decade-long journey of environmental stewardship, setting the foundation for our future social impact initiatives.

2017

Growing Roots and Branches

By 2017, our initiative had transformed into a structured organization. We launched our first official professional training programs, recognizing that environmental preservation could go hand-in-hand with social empowerment. We began offering job insertion opportunities for disadvantaged individuals, teaching them valuable skills in hedgerow management and ecological restoration. This dual mission of healing the land while helping people rebuild their lives became our defining characteristic. We secured our first major local partnerships, allowing us to take on larger, more complex riverbank reinforcement projects across the Vire-Normandie region, solidifying our reputation as a key local actor committed to sustainable community development.

2020

Resilience in Challenging Times

The global challenges of 2020 tested our resolve, but also highlighted the essential nature of our work. As communities sought solace in nature, the importance of well-maintained, accessible natural spaces became undeniable. We adapted our training protocols to ensure the safety of our participants while continuing our vital environmental maintenance. This period saw a surge in local interest and volunteerism. We expanded our certification programs, ensuring that our trainees received officially recognized qualifications, significantly boosting their long-term employability. Our commitment to both the environment and our community's most vulnerable members proved stronger and more adaptable than ever before.

Over the past ten years, we have restored countless kilometers of riverbanks and preserved vital bocage landscapes. More importantly, we have provided hundreds of individuals with a pathway to meaningful employment and social reintegration.
